The html5 boilerplate debate

So my workflow is pretty much my own. I’ve stopped jumping straight in to Photoshop and now go straight for the code. Which is great. To help speed that up I have a template which had a nice folder structure and some predefined css and java assets. It seems to work ok for me.

The question I’m asking is should I change to the html5 boilerplate?

I’ve looked at that mofo and there is some seriously freaky shit going on there. Is it too much?

I thought about going through and maybe stealing the best bits but I’m not even sure what the best bits are!

So I was wondering if you had any experience of making this sort of jump?answers on a postcard!

Trialing a new Twitter client…

After my travels around the world I had the unfortunate task of finding a new twitter client for my iPhone.

Tweetdeck had stopped working. If I tired to update my feed it kicked me back to the iPhone home screen. Un-installing and reinstalling didn’t seem to work. And the desktop client was a bit on the slow side.

So I first thought of the official client. However the bad reviews scared the hell out of me. So I gave that a miss.

Next up was twitterific. I’d heard good thing about it and that they had cut back features which is always a good thing. However on install I found you could only have one account. Which is a pity. I’m not prepared to pay for a client just yet…

So that left echofon. I know there are others but it comes recommended. And so far so good. I can’t find a way to copy Twitter user-names without trying a reply and then copying from the new message screen. But it’s a small issue. I’ll rock with it for now.

Do you have any other recommendations?

Im back baby!

Ok after 7 months travelling the world I’m back. I have 2 posts done and a whole heap of things to tell you! But for now just know that I’m here and working on some really cool stuff!

Fear and SELF loathing in Las Vegas….

So I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. Aside from the stalking/perving aspect it provides the modern man I feel that it has a lot of useful features. I like that I can keep in touch with friends I might not usually keep in touch with. I like that I can connect with family. I like that I see some wonderful photos from my good friends Dan and Russells trip around the world. I do get jealous about all the fun they are having. On the whole though I like it.

But it does have a dark side…

Ad tu, Brute?

So earlier on this week the infamous smashing ‘magazine’ posted an article about ad blockers. It implores the reader to switch off ad blockers while browsing the site. It states that we are robbing the community of much needed cash. And goes on to describe various analogies to back up the claim.

Smashing magazine has come out and said this was the opinion of one of their writers and perhaps doesn’t echo the voice of the site. Which is cool. I guess. Does the Sunday Times do that? What about the Sun or the Daily Mail? I don’t think they do.

My Take on the DE Bill

There has been a lot of discussion over the last few days in the twitterverse and all over the web about the devastating affect the DE Bill being passed could have. And there are many better places to find out about it and what it means to you. I suggest you read them.

The thing that smacks me in the face is how this is actually possible today. I feel that this country is no longer able to run itself. It breaks my heart because we should be in a position to set an example to the world. Despite our small size the UK is a major world leader. And we fail. I don’t know of a single honest politician (although I haven’t looked very hard).

Sans the caffeine

Today I’m going to be live blogging my first day without caffeine. I’ve been drinking tea at work for years and on top of that I often drink coke at lunch.

About a year ago I cut all fizzy drunk, crisps and chocolate out of my diet. I dropped half a stone in no time at all. I’m not even that big.
